Iceland

Land of Fire and Ice

What to Expect

Currency- The Icelandic Krona is Iceland’s currency. Stores, restaurants, transportation widely accept Credit cards and Debit cards. You can get away with not having cash on a trip to Iceland.

Getting around- Traveling around Iceland is an adventure. There are many options: public transport, rental car, camper vans, flights, and tours. Keep in mind, once leaving the city of Reykjavik, gas stations are few and far between. If you go the rental car route, definitely keep this in mind. Look up where gas stations are along your route.

Cuisine- Iceland is a small island in the north Atlantic Ocean, which means a lot of great seafood! Seafood is the main meat source in Iceland. While Beef, Lamb, and Chicken dishes can be found, but are more expensive than seafood.

Fun fact- In Iceland, water coming out of the faucets is glacier water. You can drink water straight from the tap. It is refreshingly cold! There is no need to purchase water bottles in Iceland. Bring a refillable bottle.

Best time to Visit

For northern lights- Winter months are the best time to visit Iceland for the northern lights. The northern lights can be seen starting around October. Download an app to help determine your chances of seeing this natural phenomenon.

For whale watching- Summer months are the best time to see humpback whales. It is likely you can see other species of whales into the fall and winter months as well.
