Currency- Euro is the currency for Greece. You can use credit cards and debit cards to go shopping and eat at restaurants. Cash is helpful to have on hand when it comes to public transportation. From my experience, cash is a necessity.
Getting Around- Traveling around Greece will always be a combination of transportation methods. Ferries and air travel are mostly the main source of travel due to Greece having many islands. Rental cars can be used for mainland Greece travel and can be brought onto certain ferries to have on the islands. Getting around the islands will most likely be rental car, ATV, scooter, boat rides, and walking.
Cuisine- The Mediterranean cuisine is one of the best, in my opinion of course. Greek food staples are a must have; Spanakopita, Tzatziki, Feta cheese, Greek salads, fresh grilled fish, Calamari, Moussaka, Lamb! Expect the food to be flavorful and most of the time oil and lemon based.
The best time to visit Greece and the islands would be during the Northern hemisphere late spring, summer, and early fall months [May-September]. Greece does experience cold winters and snow. Tourist activities on the islands are not available during the winter months. Even though summer is the best time to visit, it also becomes really hot. My personal favorite month to visit is September.
Do you know how many islands Greece has? 6,000 islands! 6,000 is a lot, but only 227 are inhabited. Due to there being so many islands, you have many options for your vacation. Many know picturesque, blue domed, Santorini. You have also heard of Mykonos, Rhodes and Crete. Outside of these popular islands, there are so many other beautiful islands and I encourage to get out and explore them. Some of my personal favorite islands are Milos, Paros and Skopelos.
It is easy to travel around the islands by taking ferries as mentioned above in the getting around section. The websites to book ferry trips on have island hopping options where you can select multi-stops.
